MESSAGE FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY
MAYOR MARVIN M. MALACONOn June 12, 1898, exactly 125 years ago today, General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the Philippine Declaration of Independence at his ancestral home in Kawit, Cavite. This year’s theme is, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan."
May today's commemoration of our Independence remind us of how our forefathers fought valiantly for our national sovereignty so we can have the many freedoms that we enjoy today.
More importantly, may their heroism continue to ignite the spirit of nationalism and patriotism in each of us to fight for our freedom from modern forms of slavery, oppression, and injustice.
These present-day forms of persecutions are, among others, lack of education, unemployment, poverty, drug abuse, social apathy, and deterioration of values. As a nation, we must rise to break free from this bondage.
