AT BRIGADA ESKWELA 2023: Malacon bares infra projects for EBMES, EBMNHS

In strong support of the Department of Education (DepEd), Mayor Marvin Malacon announced the incoming projects for the improvement of E. B. Magalona Elementary School (EBMES) and E. B. Magalona National High School (EBMNHS). Speaking at separate launching ceremonies for the weeklong Brigada Eskwela 2023 in the two main schools Monday [August 14], Malacon said the Municipal Government and the DepEd are gearing up for the construction works for these various development projects.

For EBMES, the projects will include (1) construction of 21 solar-powered street lights around the school; (2) construction of footwalk with canopy; (3) repair of stage roofing of the covered court; (4) construction of cable connections; and (5) distribution of school supplies to all pupils.

Joining the mayor in the launching was Kagawad Matthew Louis Malacon, president of Barangay Kagawad Association of Saravia (BAKAS).

For EBMES, the younger Malacon donated a 65-inch TV, 20 liters of gasoline for the grass cutters to be used in maintaining the surrounding of the school, and 200 packs of snacks for all the volunteers on the first day of Brigada Eskwela.

For EBMNHS, the projects will include (1) construction of 20 solar-powered street lights around the campus; (2) repair of covered court; (3) construction of workout gym for athletes; and (4) distribution of about 1,600 binders for Grades 11 and 12 students during the opening of the school year.

Mayor Malacon also provided 200 packs of snacks for all the volunteers on the first day of Brigada Eskwela in EBMNHS. Additionally, the mayor provided 10 liters of gasoline for the grass cutters to maintain the school grounds. This year’s theme for the Brigada Eskwela is, “Bayanihan Para sa Matatag na Paaralan.”

ELEMENTARY

The opening program for Brigada Eskwela in EBMES was participated by barangay officials, parents, children, and volunteers from different sectors of the community.

Also gracing the program were Dr. Nelson Escobin, senior education program specialist in Social Mobilization of the Schools Division Office of Negros Occidental, and Adopt-A-School division coordinator; school principal Rufino Delfin, and personnel from the Municipal Police Station.

Barangay 3 officials, headed by Punong Barangay Rolando Banasig, also volunteered in cleaning the school surrounding and also donated 5 liters of gasoline for the grass cutters.

The school also received cash donations from Rachel’s Pharmacy, Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) officers, and some parents.

HIGH SCHOOL

In EBMNHS, Mayor Malacon and Kagawad Malacon also led the signing of the Stakeholder’s Covenant of Support.

Also gracing the Brigada Eskwela launching in EBMNHS were Sangguniang Bayan Members Gilda Parcon and Gelita Parcon, MDRRMO head Mary Angeline Gustilo, Municipal Fire Station acting fire marshal SFO2 Marc Stephen Trajeras, school principal Ethel Blancaflor, and assistant school principal Gloria Gustilo.

Other volunteers included personnel from the Municipal Police Station, Municipal Fire Station, Municipal Health Office, and Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO).

Joining them were officers of PTA, members of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Community, and representatives from Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), religious groups, and private sector.

Adding fun to the activity were the E. B. Magalona Zumba dancers who led the dance exercise prior to the repair, repainting, and cleanup tasks.*
